A common misconception is that you need a NASA supercomputer to run Sora.The reality is quite different, but there are still requirements you should know about.
Cloud Computing: The Heavy Lifting
Sora does not run on your local machine.It runs on OpenAI's massive Azure GPU clusters. This means:
- You can generate videos on a Chromebook , an iPad, or even an iPhone .
- Your local GPU(Graphic Card) does not affect generation speed.
- Battery life is not impacted by the heavy rendering process.
The Bottleneck: Internet Speed
Since Sora generates high - resolution(up to 1080p typically) video files, your internet connection is the main factor.A stable connection of at least 15 Mbps is recommended to stream the previews and download the final results without buffering.
Post - Processing Requirements
While generating is easy, editing the footage is where hardware matters.Sora outputs high - bitrate MP4s.To edit these smoothly in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, we recommend:
- RAM: 16GB Minimum, 32GB Recommended.
- CPU: Apple M1/M2 / M3 or Intel Core i7(10th Gen +).
- Storage: Fast NVMe SSDs are crucial for video playback.
